Christian Dior creative director Jonathan Anderson visits Dior Heritage in Paris to explore some of the most cherished pieces from the house’s extraordinary archive. First up is the iconic Bar jacket, the defining silhouette of Christian Dior’s revolutionary 1947 New Look, followed by La Cigale, an architectural 1952 dress and one of Anderson’s personal favorites from the Dior archive. Its sculptural construction also serves as a direct inspiration for Anderson’s own Dior Cigale bag. He then moves on to the magical Junon dress, Christian Dior’s spectacular 1949 creation covered in layers of iridescent, petal-like embroidery. The surviving piece is now so fragile that it can only be displayed lying flat. Heading deeper into the archives, Jonathan arrives at the original charts for Christian Dior’s Spring/Summer 1949 haute couture collection, offering a fascinating glimpse into how the house meticulously documented and organized its collections. Along the way, Jonathan also dives into another side of Christian Dior’s legacy: his often-overlooked business acumen.
