The Dark Side of a Hollywood Icon | Vanity Fair

Jerry Lewis’s patented form of slapstick made him a 20th-century comedic icon. But former co-stars first interviewed by the directors behind Allen v. Farrow say he was a bully who sexually harassed—and in at least one case, sexually assaulted—women with impunity. A collaboration between Vanity Fair and filmmakers, Amy Ziering and Kirby Dick, reveals what happened when the cameras weren’t rolling.

    Jerry was always a creep.
    And he was never, ever funny.
    Watching him when I was very young, I was appalled, not in the least amused.

      Dean and the other co-star were the only ones that made his movies bearable

    And to think that this horrible behaviour by men in authority still goes on.

      @Charlotte
      So many men just assume you’ll be interested in them if they make a pass.
      Many just feel ENTITLED.

    Ive seen past interviews of Jerry…🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤢
    To listen to how he went on and on and on and on about how Dean was the no talent, lazy, irresponsible, …
    And to see how Jerry snapped at, insulted, belittled the interviewers…
    I just got to a point where I couldnt stomach him anymore!
    And that whole Jerry’s Kids telethone…. It was more of a “look at me, how good I am.” Like so many CHARITIES, I wonder what percentage went to help kids???

    I always wondered why he wasnt part of “The Rat Pack,” but I think in truth he was to much of a CONTROL FREAK, and they’re not much fun!!!

    It’s probably hard to believe for some just how prevalent this sort of thing was back then in society in general. And even harder how often it still happens today.

    Years ago, Jenny Jones (talk show host and comedienne) told a story about an experience she had with an iconic comedian that was almost identical to one of the stories here. She didn’t mention him by name, but now we can hypothesize it was Jerry Lewis. He was a very talented, abusive, misogynistic creep. My heart goes out to all the women he abused and the children he denied.

    Absolutely disgusted! It’s horrific how wrong you can be about a person. He had NO right, and this applies for ALL time. He is not exempt because he was a product of his time, but because a REAL man would never do something like that to a woman.
