‘Parasite’ Director Bong Joon-ho Breaks Down the Opening Scene | Vanity Fair

Writer-director, Bong Joon-ho, and actor, Woo-sik Choi, break down the symbolism of the gift scene in their critically-acclaimed foreign film, ‘Parasite.’ They take us through the bizarre moment we first see the scholar stone and explain how scavenging for set materials and costume design helped create a world that highlights the disparities of wealth and poverty. Bong is honored his film coincides with the celebration of Korean film’s 100th anniversary.

    It would probably be in more depth, if they only spoke korean, and you added subtitles. Just a note for next videos!

    What an awesome interview! Bong is so likable and intelligent. I have seen this movie twice in theaters and I cannot wait to own it!!

    11:27 Bong just looking down on me like “you would never use a bus passing in the background as a visual queue for a shift in the story and the path these characters will go down”.

    He’s right, I ain’t worthy.

    Should have just had the speak korean and had a translator…seemingly would have been alot easier for them to break down the scenes and get their point across.

    What i love about this movie is the contrast. You can really feel the effort that they put into the details to show contrast between rich and poor. Also the contrast between the first and the last half of the movie lol
