Photographer Tyler Mitchell and fashion editor Carlos Nazario head to Texas on a “school trip” of sorts for Vogue’s Summer Issue. In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, Tyler and Carlos wanted to choose a state that represented the good, the bad, and the ugly of the United States. Texas seemed like a natural fit. Along the way, Tyler and Carlos journey across the state, visiting Texas Southern University to capture cheerleaders and a drumline, spending time with line dancers and a gospel church community, and stopping at a ranch stewarded by Black cowboys.

Even if you don’t agree with his politics, the Obamas was quite the family. Miss them to this day. ❤

QUARTERMASTEREMI6 I agree. His composure and grace (and his family’s) is such an inspiration to me until this day ❤️ Politics is so overwhelmingly combative nowadays and I like that Vanity Fair is highlighting the human aspects of this world by featuring the photographer and Obama as his natural self. Thank you for your response! ☺️????????

I saw Pete speak at K-State twice while I was in school there, once before Trump was elected, and again during Trump’s presidency. His candor and resolve while speaking about his professional career was admirable. His tone and message changed immensely between the two speaking engagements, and while Pete didn’t dive into the political mess too much, he made it clear how much respect he had for the Obama family, and how he felt about the current First family.

I stopped watching the 2020 debate today because it was so frustrating. This is exactly what I needed. If only he was still president…
