Gigi Hadid Can’t Stop the Beat (ft. Laverne Cox, Cole Escola, Marc Jacobs & Alton Mason)

Published

on

Vogue cover star Gigi Hadid, who played Amber von Tussle at just nine years old in a production of Hairspray, revisits her childhood as she steps onto the stage to perform the musical’s rousing finale, “You Can’t Stop the Beat.” She’s joined by an electrifying cast, including Laverne Cox, Cole Escola, Alton Mason, Marc Jacobs, and more. Cole Escola, fresh off bringing the wildly popular “Oh, Mary!” to Broadway, dazzles in a voluminous, plunging floral dress as they dance alongside Gigi. Meanwhile, Laverne Cox commands the dressing room, roaring in leopard print. Over in the hair salon, Marc Jacobs, nails clinking and ready to go, makes way for Gigi to bring the house down.

She did amazing, but casting a size 0 Gigi Hadid as Tracy Turnblad in a music video celebrating fashion’s defiance of America’s regression into conservative values is…. certainly a choice.

Mmmmm yes like isn’t the original all about overcoming adversity when you’ve been discriminated against for size and/or skin colour 🫠 she did amazing but the timing and context is certainly questionable
