I was just thinking of the whole ‘Q’/Trump thing. If those involved don’t meet the criteria of belonging to a cult, I’m not sure who would.

What a fantastic job. People who succumb to cults are victims and should be treated as so.

I wonder if extroverts or introverts are more likely to get involved with cults, or if there has even been a study on that. As an extrovert I can see the draw of a community asking you to join them, but maybe less for an introvert. But maybe I am wrong?

    • Emma

      October 15, 2021 at 6:46 pm

I think certain types of cults could appeal to introverts. Many introverts prefer having a few very close friends but can find it hard to initiate those friendships, so having close relationships sort of built in to the cult experience could make it harder for an introvert to want to leave that situation. I could see savvy cult leaders being able to tailor their recruitment strategy to appeal to each personality type.

Rick Ross is a legend and the scourge of New Age groups/cults who can’t stand the scrutiny he puts them under.

“Martha Marcy May Marlene” is a fantastic film and one, I imagine, that well-depicts how difficult escaping a cult must be. John Hawkes is brilliant, and Elizabeth Olsen is amazing as well. A terrific novel on how one is lured into a cult, is Emma Cline’s “The Girls”, which depicts a young girl’s introduction to the Manson family.

      October 15, 2021 at 7:26 pm

It truly is fantastic! On a related note, I’ve not been part of a cult, but I was the victim of a very charismatic con artist in my early 30s. A brother figure, of sorts. For several months he fleeced me and a young woman who became his girlfriend out of a ton of money, and led us into some dark times as a result. (A mini-cult, perhaps.) A year later I watched that film a dozen times … what she went through was exactly my headspace in getting clear of this person. It was intense and difficult. (FWIW that con artist went to prison.)

All people with narcissistic personality disorder are like cult leaders.

What about children who were born into a cult? What is their original personality?

Why are all these cults led by white guys?

Backstage at Zara Larsson’s Viral Lollapalooza Show | Soundcheck | Vogue

Published

on

An exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how Zara Larsson prepares for her viral Lollapalooza performance. As the Swedish pop star gets ready for one of her biggest gigs yet, a show-stopping concert at Chicago’s iconic Lollapalooza music festival, she gives us an intimate look at her day. We begin eight hours before showtime in Zara’s hotel room, where she does vocal warm-ups, eats breakfast, and reminisces about the last time she played Lollapalooza, ten years ago. Once she arrives at the festival grounds, Zara gets into glam, drawing inspiration from a colorful, sea-dwelling crawfish. After spending time in hair and makeup, she heads backstage for a few final rehearsals with her dancers before taking the stage.
