What makes Bonnie vulnerable makes her beautiful. Her “flaws” are probably more attractive than she thinks they are.

OH MY. This is why I ALWAYS say: hair is not just “hair”. I hate that most people minimize the fact that your hair is a big thing, it really matters. When people with a “softer” usually straight texture aka the one everybody want you to believe is the “best one” say that I shouldn’t worry about my hair I just wanna cry cause they don’t know the EFFORT it takes for me to accept my natural hair when there’s a whole world telling me that I should change it’s natural way or how I treat it/style it. Quarantine was game changer for me, like everybody, I had to deal with my hair by myself. Since I was 6 my mom straightened my hair EVERY WEEK. Hence why I thought that was my destiny, to keep on straightening it till I die. Which is sad af cause once It gets wet (like every time I went to the beach) I just didn’t know what to do, literally. I’ve felt SO bad when i see how other girls just “do nothing” and their hair looks “good” while I have to struggle to feel ok, I stopped taking pictures of myself cause of it. And a friend of mine, when I was in high school made a joke about my hair that till this very day I haven’t forget. I couldn’t handle it. So 2 months ago I made my mind up and decided that I can grow and rock my natural hair. Saddest part is that my fam don’t agree with it cause they think I’m gonna look “different”. I’m gonna prove them “different” and natural are beautiful as well.

I have never related to a reaction over a hair product in my life. I was the same way going into quarantine having NEVER had to manage my own hair. The first few weeks for me were a roller coaster of emotions. When you find THAT PRODUCT that helps you realize that your hair is a gift and not a curse, it changes you and finally allows you to feel truly beautiful . I’m crying now thinking about a similar realization I had earlier in the summer. Thank you vogue for showing us such a real a genuine celebrity.

I really like that Vogue is talking about these issues but rather than just make videos with black people they need to hire more black people and let them use their natural hair.

I love that she loves her hair. So happy for her. I am a Nigerian living in Nigeria and I never really understood why black and biracial people made a big deal about hair, but watching this video and some others makes me realise hair is actually a big deal and a big part of peoples lives.

Kat needs to binge watch Jackie Aina’s videos to bring out that unapologetic blackness. It’s sad how she’s only learning how to take care of her hair as her adult because she’s been made to feel like it’s not good enough.
