I did some research and it’s actually not really true that corsets were painful and uncomfortable. They were made to fit the woman well and not be uncomfortable to move in since many woman who wore them were working class and basically were like modern day bras. (I’m not completely sure if the info is correct so feel free to correct me in the replies)

It depends on the era. Originally, stays (the predecessor to the corset), were meant only to support the back, improve posture, smooth lines and sometimes to raise the bosom. There were periods in history, though (mainly in the late 19th and early 20th century), where tight lacing became fashionable. Those corsets were absolutely not meant to be comfortable. “How slim can your waist get” was the name of that game.

Anybody know the model/look at 3:01 for Vivienne Westwood? I’m trying to find the pic. I want to recreate the look.

I can already see The Costube Community coming and burning the Vogue building down for this “corsets” of the 17th-century corsets and one size fits all: let’s explain corsets to society haha

I’m not even one minute into the video and they’ve already gotten so many facts wildly wrong. I don’t think they actually know what the terms they’re referring to actually mean..

I literally cannot believe Vogue has made this video??? Like?? This video is NOT it. Everything you’ve said about STAYS!!!! Which is the correct term for the historical garment is total BS.

I am honestly so disappointed in Vogue. They clearly didn’t do any research for this video, as 90% of the facts and some images presented are wildly incorrect or were taken out of context. They’re such a professional brand, so I don’t understand why this video is so off in its facts and evidence, and presents a false narrative of corsets being an anti feminist sentiment that men used to control them, and how they bring stays and Marie Antoinette into this.
