“Scwontz!” In this episode of Off the Cuff (that nearly goes off the rails) “A Complete Unknown” stars Timothée Chalamet and Elle Fanning, answer a series of rapid-fire questions. What’s their favorite Bob Dylan lyric? Do they prefer acting or singing? When did they first meet each other? Do they like vinyl or streaming better? Timothée and Elle also rap about Doechii, Chappell Roan, and underground hip hop sensation Lil Timmy Tim.

I love how Dr. Jones respect these movies while reviewing them but deep down she knows in terms of archeological technicalities they are crap.

Archaeology and palaeontology are different disciplines, although they intersect when human pre-history is studied

While playing my first Tomb Raider game I was so confused that everyone acts like LC is an archeologist but you get achievements for smashing things inside of the sites she explores. I said to my spouse “This is awful, she is ruining everything in here.” Response: “Well, it’s called Tomb Raider not Tomb Preserver.” 🤣
When Dr. Jones mentions this is definitely not “archeology” but theft and destruction I felt my concerns were seen 🥰
(Don’t get me wrong, the games are fun as all get out still, but the point must be made!)

In summary: archaeology is about discovering and preserving history, while movie archaeology is about finding cool and valuable gems, and destroying history if you need to to find them

Movie about real archeology :
Digging carefully , brushing things with brushes , sifting dirt , identifying bits of broken things , making notes , taking pictures, no explosions , no car chases….
Sounds like fun

Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s Mausoleum has an est. 8,000 Terracotta Warriors and no two look exactly alike. I highly recommend looking it up.
