Richard Hoy, a South African-born, Asian menswear designer, started the brand RICHARD HOY about 5 years ago, predominantly designing and making men’s custom underwear and swimwear, but later venturing into streetwear.
His design style, the core of his brand’s identity, is contemporary, premium tailored casual wear, with a minimal sporty aesthetic capturing a rebellious, free-spirited, and youthful attitude.
He completed his Diploma in Fashion Design and Retail Buying, at Damelin College and was a finalist in the 2019 SA Fashion Week Scouting Menswear competition.
Prior to pursuing his fashion brand he was employed, within the retail industry, as a regional
Visual Merchandiser for Poetry and Old Khaki stores.
The inspiration behind the upcoming Spring/Summer ’21 Collection is entitled “Field Trip” and includes a simpler nostalgic past, referenced in the education of youth, juxtaposed with hard
wearing utility hiking details.
The collection includes bomber jackets, utility pockets, hiking ropes, letter motifs and tongue in
cheek styling.
